This vintage canine motif brooch was skillfully and artistically created in 14K yellow gold, Mother of Pearl, and natural rock crystal, most likely at some time during the decade from 1940 to 1950. Here, a deftly reverse cut and hand painted caricature of a standard French Poodle is encircled with a highly detailed dog collar, creating a whimsical and impressive object. While it is at present, only as a brooch*, a very minor alteration will render it usable as a pendant as well. The brooch bears no marking aside from one hand engraved jeweler's inventory number. All precious metal tests as 14K gold. Measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter. Gross weight 22.14 grams.
