Here we have a Mid-20th Century nautical flag bracelet, crafted in Naples Italy, that is not done in the usual manner. Over the years, we have seen many Italian creations in gold and hot enamel.
What sets this amazing bracelet apart is that each of the 18K yellow gold frames are inset with meticulously cut hard stone pieces, creating a line of sixteen individual nautical flags. Each nautical flag represents a specific command signal from the admiral of a ship relaying his orders. Many times, multiple flags were hoisted together in a line. This colorful bracelet is a reflection of the orders that were set in stone.
The process of stone inlay is infinitely more complex than creating the same piece in enamel. The workmanship is so fine that upon first glance and touch, with the smoothness of the surfaces, one doesn't realize the difference.. Each frame is hinged to the next allowing for ease of movement.
