This wonderful and imaginative 18k yellow gold dome ring and others of this genre were no doubt inspired during the "Space Race" of the Mid-20th Century. The large dome measures 1 1/16 inches in diameter and rises 5/8 inches above the finger. A total of nineteen bezel set round brilliant cut natural amethyst stones adorn the dome. They have a total approximate weight of 12.75ct, and are well matched, having a uniform vibrant color. Most of the "Sputnik" rings made during this period, were done using multi color, semi-precious stones. This particular ring stands out because it was designed with a complete set of well matched amethysts, instead of the multi colors. Also, this ring measures 1.07 inches in diameter, making it a large scale ring, wherein most of these rings measured less than an inch in diameter. A stamp, indicating 18k gold is obscured, but testing confirms that gold content is 18k. Ring size is 7. Gross weight 8 grams.
